Fox Rosehill Garden

Fox Rosehill Gardens, Falmouth, Cornwall

Fox Rosehill Gardens are located discreetly off Melvill Road. This peaceful tranquil garden is a legacy from the Fox family who gave part of the garden for public enjoyment at the end of the Second World War.

Many varied species from Australia, New Zealand and South America have been successfully introduced to the mild Cornish climate, including Lemon, Banana and Eucalyptus Trees, Bamboos, Agaves and a wide variety of Palms.

Many of the plants were brought back from various parts of the globe by Captains in the shipping business run by the Fox family, or from Kew Gardens when excess plant material was produced. It was common practice for Kew to offer plants to large private gardens such as Fox Rosehill.

The gardens were awarded the national Green Flag Award status in recognition of the work in the gardens in environmental protection and enhancement. The awards panel credited Fox Rosehill Gardens with being of great historical and botanical importance for the local area.

The gardens open day held usually on the first Saturday in June has proved to be a huge success and has now become part of the annual calendar of events in Falmouth. A plant sale, rustic craft demonstration and children's entertainment provide a fun packed family day.
